Arriving in a new city can be a bit daunting at first. And even more so when English isn’t the main language. It can be difficult to navigate at first and understand how to get from point A to point B.
If you’re travelling to the amazing German city of Berlin, we’ve compiled this short quick article with four good places to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night! We’ve eaten there ourselves and all four places represent good quality food and good prices.
Breakfast: Chipps
Chipps is located at Jägerstraße 35, close to Gendarmenmarkt. The closest U-Bahn station is Stadtmitte or Hausvogteiplatz.
The menu is very English/American oriented, with staples such as fried and scrambled eggs, bacon, omelettes, eggs benedict, a great selection of healthy options, as well as a large selection of vegetarian dishes too (eg vegetarian sausages, baked beans etc). They do freshly squeezed juice and great coffee and tea. The staff are happy to adapt the menu as well if you’re gluten free.
This is a great place to eat by yourself, or with family or friends.
Although the website (and the website menu) is in German, you don’t need to worry because they have an English menu which you can view here, and the staff speak perfect English too.
Breakfast, a juice and tea or coffee will cost around €20 per person (about $24USD).
Brunch/Lunch: Quchnia
Quchnia is located at Markgrafenstraße 35. The closest U-Bahn station is Stadtmitte or Hausvogteiplatz.
It’s a real cosy cafe, with a large soft lounge chairs and a nice selection of books for you to read. It’s a great place to eat alone, or with family and friends.
The menu includes an all day breakfast which is perfect if you’ve had a big night, or you’ve had a sleep in. There’s also a great selection of sandwiches, bagels and other dishes, as well as cakes, great coffee and tea.
Expect to pay around €20-€25 per person here (around $24USD-$30USD).
Dinner: Nolle
Nolle is located at S-Bahnbogen 203, Georgenstraße. The closest U-Bahn station is Friedrichstraße .
This is your classic German restaurant with a great menu serving traditional German food, including of course the classic German Wiener Schnitzel and German sausages! It’s pretty meat heavy, so if you’re vegetarian or vegan, there’s not going to be a great selection on the menu for you.
It’s a relaxed and friendly environment to dine alone, or with friends or with your kids.
Expect to spend around €30 per person for a main course, glass of wine and dessert.
Late night: Restaurant Feinberg’s
Restaurant Feinberg’s is a great little Jewish/Israeli restaurant. The closest U-Bahn station is Wittenbergplatz.
OK so it’s a bit out of the way, but the food is amazing. If you love traditional Jewish dishes, or anything Lebanese related (think hummus, babaganoush, felaffel etc) then a visit to Restaurant Feinberg’s should be on your list!
The best part it is open late! So if you get hungry at night, you can eat here until 11pm! (It’s closed on Mondays).
The food here is awesome, including delicious hummus and flat breads, felaffel, Shakshuka, Israeli salad, Sabich (salad with eggplant and boiled egg), Chraime fish, chicken and a great wide vegetarian and vegan range too! It truly has something for everyone!
It’s great value, and will cost around €10-€20 (depending on how hungry you are).
